Task Force

About

The Parking and Transit Task Force was established in October 2005 under President Crow’s direction. The goal of the committee was to design a parking and transportation plan for ASU’s future that was inclusive, creative, fiscally responsible and forward thinking. The taskforce had an open and collaborative process which included representatives of classified staff, faculty, student government groups, campus events, student affairs, residential life and athletics.

The task force completed its analysis in April 2006 and provided PTS with proposals it believed would benefit the campus community while still operating under the budgetary considerations that PTS is a self-funded auxiliary unit of theuniversity.

As a result of the task force’s recommendations, PTS has since implemented several parking and transportation serviceenhancements including:

  • Extending the hours of operation for the FLASH Forward shuttle to run until 1am on the weekdays.
  • The continuation of the ASU U-Pass program (it was launched as a trial/pilot program in fall 2005).
  • Increasing the frequency of the Polytechnic-Tempe and West-Tempe intercampus shuttles to run hourly.
  • Initiating the Helmets and Headlights safety campaign.
  • Installing closed-circuit television at the entrances and exits of most parking structures.
  • Continuing to provide funding for the Safety Escort Service, whose hours were extended to operate from 7pm-3am daily.
  • Establishing a tiered permit pricing system, making permits available for purchase in all price ranges to suit a variety of financial means.
