Light Rail and Bicycles, A Seamless Combination
METRO light rail is a great way to connect to work, school, shopping and events in Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa. METRO has many bicycle-friendly features and ties in seamlessly with the bus system, as U-Passes and other types of transit fare are good for both. Operating 365 days a year, 20 hours a day, you can expect a train anytime, from either direction.
Bicyclists, please use these guidelines when using METRO:
- Never bike in the light rail trackway and always walk your bicycle across the station platform and on board the train.
- Bicycle symbols on the train windows show you the doors nearest the bicycle rack.
- Racks are first-come, first-serve. If the bicycle rack is full or you are unable to load your bicycle into the rack, you may stand with your bicycle as long as you do not block the aisle or doorway. If the train is crowded, you may be required to wait for a less full train.
- You are responsible for loading and unloading your bicycle. For safety reasons, the operator cannot leave the cabin to assist you. Make sure your bicycle is loaded properly and, if possible, sit near your bicycle.
Bicycles may NOT be secured to the station structure, railings or fences. Warning notices will be placed on bicycles found secured to unauthorized locations. After 24 hours, the lock will be cut and the bicycle will be removed and taken to lost and found at Central Station. A notice will be left at the bicycle’s location, advising the owner of the disposition. METRO takes no responsibility for damage to the lock or bicycle.
However, you may secure your bicycle to racks at the following locations:
